Mashup Bootie
I have to give credit for this find to Bren, but I’ll take the glory of posting it
You know what a mashup is, right kids? Wikipedia talks about four various types of mashups, but I’ll give you some love on the music variety.
I didn’t know this until reading the Wikipedia entry, but there is a long history of musical mashups. It’s interesting to see that Frank Zappa was even involved in some early forms of it.
Up until about a year ago I had only heard a few mashups on the radio. Then one day, when Bren was a squatter in my office, he told me about Best of Bootie 2006. Oh, yeah, and you can download it right from the website.
The rest of that afternoon was shot as I listened to those tracks. And one of the best things is they give you the tracks that were considered but didn’t make the cut for the final album. IMHO, the best song for that album didn’t even make the cut (You’re The One That I Want In The Next Episode, a mix of Olivia Newton-John & John Travolta [Grease] vs. Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg). Other tracks include Jay-Z vs. Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, Beastie Boys vs. Led Zeppelin, and Run-DMC vs. Metallica.
Best of Bootie 2007 came out a little while ago, and it keeps the mashup train rolling. For all three albums (2005 - 2007), as with any album, there are low and high points, but these should definitely be on your list of albums to get (especially since you can get them for free).
